Ikonická stavba na Národní třídě má velmi komplikovanou historii. Architektonickou soutěž v šedesátých letech vyhrál návrh Bohuslava Fuchse, architekt bohužel zemřel a úkol byl přidělen Pavlu Kupkovi, ten na místě navrhl administrativní budovu a polyfukční objekt. Už se kopaly základy, když došlo k dalšímu zvratu, bylo rozhodnuto že ND potřebuje další scénu. Celý projekt byl přidělen Karlu Pragerovi a ten postavil soubor budov v podobě, jak je známe dnes. Stanislav Libenský a Jaroslava Brychtová navrhli unikátní skleněný plášť budovy tvořený 4306 kusy obrazovek, který má zlepšit vnitřní akustiku objektu. Interiéru dominuje obklad z kubánského mramoru, velmi precizně tvarovaný v nejjemnějších detailech. Všemi nadzemními podlažími prochází neobyčejný světelný objekt od Pavla Hlavy a Jaroslava Štursy.

The national theaters iconic new stage building has a very complicated history. In the 1960s Bohuslav Fuchs, a prominent Czechoslovak architect, won an architecture competition for the New Stage complex but passed away shortly after. The project was then given to Pavel Kupka, who designed an administration building and multifunctional building for the site. While construction works on its foundations were already in progress, there was another turn of events when the National Theater decided it would need a building for its new stage. As a result, the whole project was given to Karel Prager, who designed and built the complex we can see today. Stanislav Libenský and Jaroslava Brychtová invented the unique building shell, comprising 4306 glass screens designed to improve the buildings interior acoustics. The interior is marked by Cuban marble cladding, cut and shaped very precisely into finest details. There is also an extraordinary light installation hanging through all the upper floors. It was made by legendary glass makers and artists Pavel Hlava and Jaroslav Štursa.
